ITCamp 2014 - Call for content
On May 22-23 2014, the 4th edition of ITCamp will be organized in Cluj-Napoca. The two days of the conference are dedicated to technical sessions related to IT solutions architecture, IT trends, technologies, web, cloud, big data, agile process, useful tools and different development techniques.
While the main focus of the conference is the Microsoft stack, we also focus on anything that runs on or alongside Microsoft technologies - things such as JavaScript, Hadoop, PHP, Linux and many more.
This year, we would like to give a chance to other IT community people out there (from both Romania and the EMEA region) to attend our conference as speakers. So, if you want to have your own session and speak to a mature and highly experienced IT audience, then this is your chance! ITCamp is the biggest IT conference focusing on Microsoft technologies in Transylvania.
The sessions are 60-minutes long, in a lecture format. You can even check out all the sessions from last year, just to have an idea of what we're aiming for. We're looking at selecting around 10 sessions through this call-for-content process.
Travel and accomodations are included for all selected speakers not currently living in Cluj-Napoca, RO.
Evaluation criteria
All submitted sessions will be rated and ordered based on their final score/rating. This way, if a speaker says that he will not be able to join the conference, it will be very easy to move down the list and select another session (speaker).
The top sessions will be selected based on the following criteria:
- Speaker technical (or management) background
- Speaker presentation skills (previous experience is higly appreciated)
- Session content
- Session level, reported to ITCamp level target
Please note that sessions that focus on proprietary technologies or solutions and focus on marketing/selling those technologies will be ignored from the start.
Also, the ITCamp organisers reserve the right to select specific sessions based on other criteria or preferences, as needed.
Tips for great submissions
This year, we intend to mark all sessions on the agenda according to their technical depth level. We will use something similar to the TechEd conference session levels, so you will be asked to evaluate or plan your session level before submitting it. You may find a reference of the session levels here.
Also, please keep the following recommendations in mind:
- Write a descriptive, fun and enticing title - this should "sell" your session to the audience
- Target 300-400 level technical content; 100 and 200 level content is in low demand - if you say your talk is level 400 then make sure it is or be prepared for a barrage of feedback in your evaluations!
- Describe content that is new, unique or significantly refreshed from a previous presentation
- Take a solution oriented approach
- Ensure there is minimal marketing talk in your content
- Showcase your speaking experience
- Focus on currently released technologies, technologies in beta or ones that will be released within 6-12 months of ITCamp
- Include one or more live demos; historically, sessions with strong demos receive higher audience scores
- Include personal experience of using a technology (or technologies) to build a solution; this goes down well with an audience of your peers, as everyone likes to learn from other’s mistakes before having to make it themselves
